New Delhi, May 25: India's leading rice exporter Satnam Overseas has embarked on an ambititious business plan to make forays into ready-to-eat foods for catering to both domestic and export markets.

"We will be producing and marketing nine varieties of ready-to-eat foods both in India and abroad under our flagship Kohinoor brand and are targeting a 15 per cent market share in the next three years," joint managing director Satnam Overseas, Gurnam Arora said here.
In the first year itself, the target is to register sales of Rs 12 crore including Rs seven crores in the overseas markets, he added.
He said it makes sound business proposition since the market for such foods at present, pegged at Rs 70 crore is growing at 20 per cent for the last three years.
Kohinoor "heat and eat" foods including 'dal', 'kadi pakora' and 'chhole' are being introduced in Delhi and Mumbai and will be made available in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune and Mangalore by mid-June.

He said the products will be marketed in the US and Canada through its wholly owned subsidiary, SOL Incorporated. The company is also eyeing the West Asian and European markets where the sales will be through Dubai-based rich rice raisers factory and the UK-based joint venture, Indo-European Foods.

On prices, he said the foods will be sold in 300 gram packs for Rs 46 each in Delhi and Rs 49 elsewhere.
