New Delhi, May 09: In a path-breaking measure, government today introduced in the Lok Sabha a constitution amendment bill that provides for the setting up of a National Judicial Commission for appointment and transfer of judges and also inquire into cases of misconduct by judges, including those from the highest judiciary. Law Minister Arun Jaitley introduced the Constitution (95th Amendment) Bill, 2003 which provides for constitution by the president of the National Judicial Commission (NJC) to be chaired by the Chief Justice of India. Two other judges of the Supreme Court next to CJI's seniority will also be its members. Apart from the three, the Union law minister will be a member of the commission along with an eminent citizen to be nominated by the president in consultation with the prime minister.
