In a recent letter to chief ministers of states which
have set up FTCs with cent per cent central grant, law
minister Arun Jaitley asked them to refer all civil and
criminal cases pertaining to those above 60 years of age to
save the older generation from the frustration emanating from
the slow pace of the justice delivery system.
He also asked them to chalk out a scheme in consultation with the chief justices of the high courts to refer all cases of sexual abuse of women and matrimonial cases to FTCs to save them from the repeated adjournments sought by the accused in a bid to harass the victim further during the trial.
"It is necessary that in the order of disposal of cases due priority is given to more vulnerable segments of the population - the senior citizens and the women victims," Law Minister Arun Jaitley said in the letter.
He said as it would not be possible to create additional courts for these sections immediately, all pending cases involving senior citizens and cases pertaining to sexual abuse and matrimonial cases against women should be transferred to FTCs.
The Minister is understood to have taken this step after receiving thousands of representations from old persons and women venting their grievances against the slow trial process.
