New Delhi, Nov 24: Vowing to make efforts for grant of full statehood to Delhi, ruling Congress today promised to continue with the reforms in power, water, transportation and agriculture sectors, strengthen the economic condition and offered a series of sops to the youth, senior citizens, government employees, minorities and backward class people. Releasing its manifesto for December one Delhi Assembly elections, the party promised to give scheduled caste certificates to those living in Delhi for the last five years, setting up of separate financial corporation of the SCs, OBCs and minorities.
Acknowledging complaints of excess charging and fast electricity meters, it said the matter would be dealt with "urgently".
The manifesto released by AICC general secretary Ahmed Patel along with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Delhi Congress president Chaudhary and some other leaders also sought to encourage small families and education of children by promising to provide "appreciation cards" to families with only two children and both going to school.
The ambitious Metro Rail, over which both BJP and Congress claim credit, will be connected to every important area of the city besides which the manifesto promised 76 additional flyovers to make Delhi traffic red light-free.
The party said, if voted to power, section 81 of the Delhi Land Reform Act would be deleted, a time-bound programme will be forwarded to service selection board for filling vacancies in different departments and employment will be ensured to one family member of agriculture workers.
