Mumbai, Aug 02: VHP today demanded invocation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota) against those illegally storing explosives in their houses and suggested setting up of vigilance committees to search residences of persons suspected to be doing so. The demand was made by Maharashtra VHP general secretary Prof Vynakatesh Abdeo in a statement here in the context of the July 31 explosion at the suburban Jogeshwari residence of Bollywood stuntman Dilnawaz Khan that left seven killed and injured 26 others.
Abdeo also doubted police's contention that explosion was an "accident and not a terrorist act" and questioned "whether such powerful explosives are used for pyrotechniques in the films".
"The people are suspicious that the government is hiding something?", the VHP leader said adding "who were the forces backing Dilnawaz Khan and why his residence was not searched despite knowing that he was storing explosives without proper licences".
Abdeo alleged that many persons in Dharavi and Kurla in central Mumbai were storing chemical explosives and their houses should be searched.
He recommended setting up of ward-wise vigilance committees, to be headed by non-political persons, to inspect houses of those suspected to be storing explosives illegally.
Abdeo also suggested closing down of madrasas across the state for their "anti-Hindu stance" and said searches mosques should also be searched.
