New Delhi, Nov 26: The BJP today apprehended "trouble" in the four states going to polls and asked the Election Commission to take immediate steps to ensure free and fair elections. "A BJP delegation is meeting the Chief Election Commissioner tomorrow to draw his attention to the possibility of trouble in the states going to polls and the need to take steps to ensure that there is free and fair polling and it passes off peacefully," party president M Venkaiah Naidu told a press conference, making a trip to the capital in the midst of electioneering.
Naidu, who briefed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee here this morning on the election campaign and the party's prospects in the poll-bound states, had conducted a review meeting with party vice president Bal Apte general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and state leaders on the "party's electoral prospects”.
He said in the coming three days, the party's top leaders would step up campaign in these states with the emphasis continuing to be on development and good governance.
"Our feedback is we are ahead of the Congress in all states and even Congress leader Arjun Singh who is supposed to be number two has sought an apology from the people of Madhya Pradesh and sought one more term," he said. Bureau Report
