New York, Aug 25: The condition of Indian tennis star Leander Paes is stable and the results of tests conducted are still awaited, according to a news report. The Orlando Sentinel, a local newspaper where Paes was hospitalised a week ago, said yesterday that Paes’ headaches had disappeared, and his vision was normal.

The test results, which were expected to be out by Midweek, were unannounced. His condition was listed as stable.

''Doctors are treating him with antibodies to fight an unknown infection. They also began to study up on Cysticercus Granuloma, a common infection in India caused by the larval form of a tapeworm,'' the daily said.
Paes reportedly suffered severe headaches during a match in Cincinnati, Ohio, about 10 days ago and got admitted later to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Orlando, Florida, where the Wimbledon Mixed Doubles' champion has an off-season residence.

The player’s family and friends milled through the hospital hallways. His father Dr. Vece Paes, himself an expert in sports medicine, arrived in Orlando. Mahesh Bhupathi, his longtime doubles partner, is also in town.

Despite attempts, they could not be reached. Dr. R. Jayakrishnan, an associate professor of engineering at the University of California-Irvine who runs a fan club and web site for Paes, said he was shocked from Paes’ sudden indisposition. He has been one among many who called and e-mailed the hospital. Neither Paes nor his aides have taken phone calls and news media inquiries with the hospital have not been fruitful.
