Nagapattinam (Tn), Oct 13: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
Jayalalithaa today hit out at the DMK saying it had done
precious little to get due share of Cauvery waters from
Karnataka during its regime.
Neither its leader nor the ministers in the central
cabinet have done anything tangible to get water for Tamil
Nadu from Karnataka. "Their only worry is to stick to the
chairs and that their party should continue in the alliance,"
she said while launching various welfare schemes totaling
over Rs 261 crore in the district here this evening.
Taking advantage of the presence of Congress MP, Mani Shankar Iyer, in the function, she advised Iyer to put in a word to his party president, Sonia Gandhi, to order Karnataka to release Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu.
Referring to the remarks of Iyer that the state government should ask the centre for necessary drought relief assistance, she said 'we had submitted two memoranda to the centre and received as much as we can'.
Commenting on Iyer's negative remarks on the prospects of north-east monsoon, due to start any time now in the state, Jayalalithaa said "let us have some positive thinking that the monsoon will be good and there will be a good crop. If anything unexpected happened, we will face the situation and my government will not let down the farmers."
