New Delhi, Oct 06: Karnataka would get a drought relief assistance of Rs 167.81 crore, while Orissa Rs 173.34 crore as relief for the recent floods which affected about 17 districts of the state.
This was decided after the high-level committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani considered the proposals for grant of assistance to drought and flood affected states for which the assessment of the central team had been received, an official release said today.
The meeting, held on Friday, also considered the recommendations of the inter-ministerial group and approved the assessed requirements for relief assistance, it said.
While Assam would get Rs 70.72 crore, Chhattisgarh has been given Rs 17.92 crore to tackle the situation following floods in the state.
Taking into account the funds already available with the states under calamity relief fund, an amount of Rs 115.86 crore to Karnataka and Rs 54,43 crore to Orissa will be released from the national calamity contingency fund.
This will be in addition to the Rs 50 crore already released to Orissa from the NCCF for the current floods.
In the case of Assam and Chhatisgarh, no further releases were required from the NCCF as these states had sufficient balances in the calamity relief fund.
The committee also approved allocation of 1.65 lakh metric tonnes of rice for Karnataka and 3 lakh metric tonnes of rice to Orissa for employment generation programmes in the affected areas.
