Court to pronounce verdict in Best Bakery massacre
Vadodara, June 27: The verdict in the Best Bakery case, in which 12 people were killed in riots in aftermath of Godhra train carnage of February 27 last year, would be pronounced by additional district sessions judge Hemantsinhu Mahida here today.
Vadodara, June 27: The verdict in the Best Bakery case, in which 12 people were killed in riots in aftermath of Godhra train carnage of February 27 last year, would be pronounced by additional district sessions judge Hemantsinhu Mahida here today.
Twenty-one persons were arrested in connection with the case, of whom Rajaram Chauhan was released on bail by the high court even as most of the eyewitnesses, including the main complainant Zahira Shaikh and her family members, turned hostile in the case.
Majority of panchnama witnesses, deposing before the court, had claimed that police had obtained their signature on papers without revealing its contents. The trial in the case commenced from May 9.
The investigating police officials had also deposed in the fast track court.
The defence counsels including Rajendra Trivedi, Shailesh Patel, Jagat Desai, Ajay Joshi and others contended that police had implicated wrong persons in the case, because of which there was a delay in the registration of complaint. Bureau Report
