Kohima, July 19: Fourteen insurgents, belonging to different militant outfits, have surrendered before a senior Assam Rifles official in Mokokchung district of Nagaland. The activists also handed over various types of weapons like M 21 and .30 US Winchester carbine series of rifles besides pistols, revolvers, hand grenades and large quantity of ammunition while surrendering before Brig N N Madappa, DIG (Nagaland Range), north at a ceremony yesterday, an official release said here today. Speaking on the occasion DIG Madappa lauded the activists, who gave themselves up, and termed the event as a sort of homecoming.

"The people of Nagaland have experienced a life of violence and misery and now time has come for all sections of Naga society to persuade the disillusioned youth to join the mainstream," the DIG said. Bureau Report
