Amritsar, Nov 11: Former SGPC president G S Tohra, who is challenging Shiromani Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal`s bid to retain control of Sikhs` highest religious body in tomorrow`s SGPC poll, tonight claimed the support of between 91 and 95 members. Tohra, who heads Sarb Hind Akali Dal (SHAD) formed after parting of ways with Badal in 1999, termed as "bogus" Badal`s claim of having support of over 100 members and accused the former Punjab chief minister of presenting "fake members". The 190-member SGPC executive committee has an effective strength of 176.
He said that SHAD candidates for SGPC elections would be announced tomorrow after they are finalised by the seven-member committee headed by Mal Singh Ghuman.
Tohra charged Badal and his supporters with forcibly occupying the guest houses in the SGPC complex and not allowing his members to move into their rooms.
Referring to the air-lifting of 98 members of SGPC by Badal faction, Tohra charged the Central government with extending help to the former chief minister.

The police also remained a mute spectator when a large number of Badal supporters marched to the SGPC complex, he said.

Tohra said that there was no provision for observers in the Sikh Gurdwara Act and NDA leaders, including Union Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma, had no official status in SGPC polls as they had been appointed observer neither by the Centre nor the state government.
