Madurai, Sept 21: Chairman of the Michael Pattinam panchayat in Ramanathapuram district, Sesu Mary, has been selected for the "World Bank" award for implementing "100% rain water harvesting (RWH)" scheme in her village. According to Sesu Mary she had been able to achieve the fete with the co-operation of the people and the district collector Vijayakumar.
The RWH would help in solving the drinking water shortage in the area, she told reporters at Ramanathapuram yesterday.
The award is given under the World Bank's programme for adopting new strategy for eradicating poverty and social security.
A Chennai-based NGO recommended Sesu's name for the award. She would receive the award during the function to be held at Washington in December, she said.
