Vadodara, Dec 06: Parts of Gujarat experienced a major power failure today due to tripping of Indore-Asoj transmission following `overdrawing' of power by neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, according to Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) sources. Following low voltage, Madhya Pradesh started over drawing reactive load from the western grid, passing through Gujarat because of which 400 kva Indore-Asoj transmission line tripped, depriving Gujarat from getting its allocated share of power from the central sector power projects located in Madhya Pradesh.
"It was the fault of Madhya Pradesh for failure of power in western grid system today, which had compelled GEB to impose additional hours of load shedding in several parts of the state,” they said.
This created a shortfall of about 1500-2000 mw of power, as a result of which several parts of Saurashtra experienced power failure, the board sources said.
Later, however, the power supply was restored, it added.
"Overdrawal of RAC reactive power is not allowed. Despite this, Madhya Prdesh has been doing it,” the sources said.
Parts of Maharashtra also experienced power breakdown for several hours today, "following tripping of 400 kv Indore-Asoj and Itarsi-Dhule lines possibly due to low voltage at Indore sub-station leading to separation of GEB system and MSEB system from rest of the grid", according to general manager, western regional load despatch centre, Anjan Roy.
