Valentino Rossi raced to a home win in the Italian MotoGP at Mugello to extend his lead in the 2002 championship.
Honda rider Rossi made the most of pole position to come in ahead of Yamaha's Max Biaggi, who had led between laps seven and 13 before being overhauled by the reigning world champion.
Japan's Tohru Ukawa was third on his Honda.
The victory was particularly sweet for Rossi, who last year fell during this race in rainy conditions.
After the race, Rossi said an accident during the warm-up helped him focus and claim the win.
