New Delhi, Nov 10: Power developer Reliance Power today sought tax concessions from the government to spur investment in the sector even as it doubted if the target of providing power for all by 2012 could be achieved. Participating in a debate on power tariff policy, chairman D V Kapur said that the objective of adding additional 100,000 mw of generation capacity was destined to meet the same fate as the targets set forth in the earlier plans.

"Why make such statements. We should not talk of such targets at least not in internal fora...Economic matters need much more seriousness," Kapur said.

Responding to the criticism, power secretary R V Shahi said that all efforts were being made to achieve the target.

"Target is achievable and not impossible...Without a target we will get nowhere," he added.

Terming these targets as a mere wish-list, Kapur said that government should undertake exercises to see whatever maximum targets can be realised in the next 8-10 years.
