Mumbai, June 28: In a new twist to Ram Temple controversy, ulemas in Maharashtra today warned All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) against compromising on Babri masjid issue, saying the board otherwise would not be able to "confront the Muslim masses". "Desist from any compromise on Babri land otherwise you will have to face repercussions across India. You will not be able to confront Muslim masses", they warned AIMPLB.

The ulemas, who had gathered here on the call given by Raza Academy, a 25-year-old organisation dedicated to religious and social causes, have asked "AIMPLB to act according to Islamic Shariat and not become a puppet in the hands of BJP-led NDA government", an academy release said. The meeting, presided over by Hazrat Saiyad Musannah Miyan, lasted for over four hours, deliberated various angles of the Ayodhya issue.

The warning issued by ulemas assumes significance in the wake of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati submitting fresh proposals to AIMPLB to resolve the Ayodhya imbroglio.

Kanchi seer's reported formula to construct Babri mosque on its original place and surrounding land to be given to Ram Janambhoomi Nyas was not acceptable to Muslims, the Ulemas said. Bureau Report
