Seoul, Sept 01: North Korea has blasted a reported US decision to impose sanctions against its companies for selling missile technology as "confrontational". Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said late yesterday that the Stalinist country's missile issue "allows no linkage with sanctions."

"The recent decision is little short of another declaration of confrontation with the DPRK (North Korea) as it is a direct product of the us hostile policy toward the DPRK," it said, without giving details of the alleged sanctions. The US state department has listed Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan and Syria as countries supporting terrorism.

Those listed are subject to sanctions such as being barred from purchasing US military material and receiving international aid other than for humanitarian purposes.

KCNA accused Washington of trying to use sanctions as a "trump card" in a bid to isolate the famine-hit country. But the agency said the north is ready for dialogue with the United States if it drops its hostile policy toward Pyongyang.

It quoted a foreign ministry spokesman as saying: "This principled stand of the DPRK over the bilateral dialogue remains unchanged and the ball is in the court of the US side."

The spokesman, however, denounced John Bolton, US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security as "a standard-bearer among the notorious hard-line hawks." Bureau Report
