New Delhi, Oct 30: Petroleum Minister Ram Naik today
said there was no shortage of domestic cooking gas (LPG) in
the country as imports made up for the shortfall in LPG output
arising out of the shutdown of a crucial unit in the Jamnagar
refinery of Reliance Industries Ltd.
"There is no shortage of LPG and we are taking steps
(like imports) to bridge whatever shortfall has been created
due to the shutdown," Naik told reporters here.
State-run Indian Oil Corp (IOC) is importing five cargoes of 13,000 tonnes each to meet the deficit created by shutting down of fluidised catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) of the country's largest LPG producer.
Reliance had on October 20 shut down a FCCU of its 31 million tonnes Jamnagar refinery for two weeks following a leak.
"We have sufficient stocks and whatever deficit is there, we will bridge it by importing. We will ensure that there is no scarcity anywhere," Naik said.
