Security tightened in Manipur capital
Imphal, Oct 29: Security has been stepped up with the deployment of police and para-military forces today in view of the proposed rally by members of the North Eastern Students Organisation to press for their demands, including deportation of foreign nationals from the Northeastern areas, official sources said.

Sources said a large posse of police and CRPF personnel
were on duty across the state capital to prevent the rally by
the students.
The government had earlier declared holiday today in all educational institutions in the state.
A spokesman of the NESO told reporters that they planned a peaceful procession to press their demands which included deportation of foreign nationals from the north eastern states.
The spokesman also condemned the government's closure of all educational institutions.
Official sources said prohibitory orders preventing gathering of five or more persons had been in force in Imphal East and Imphal West districts for more than a month now.
