New Delhi, Mar 06: Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Najma Heptulla was today unanimously elected president of the Indo-Arab society for the 13th consecutive term, a spokesman of her office said. Heptulla was first elected president of the society in 1980 and since then she has been the unanimous choice for the presidentship of the society.
During her presidency, Heptulla has been instrumental in mobilising public opinion for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people's fight for an independent homeland and an amicable settlement of the middle east peace process. The Indo-Arab society was founded on October seven in 1954 with the objective of strengthening friendship and understanding between India and the Arab world and to promote cultural, educational and social relations.
