Iraq running out of time to avert war: Bush

Washington, Jan 21: President George W Bush today brushed aside appeals for UN inspectors to have more time in Iraq and charged that Saddam Hussein is using "the tricks of the past" to dodge a UN disarmament ultimatum.
"He's been given ample time to disarm. We've had ample time now to see that he is employing the tricks of the past today," Bush said. "This looks like a re-run of a bad movie, and I'm not interested in watching it." Faced with resistance from key allies to attacking Iraq, the US leader sharply dismissed appeals for the world to give UN disarmament inspectors more time to do ensure that Baghdad has abandoned Weapons of Mass Destruction.
"This business about, you know, 'more time': how much time do we need to see clearly that he's not disarming?" Bush said as he met with economists to discuss his stimulus package. "He is delaying. He's deceiving. He's asking for time. He's playing hide-and-seek with inspectors. One thing is for certain, he's not disarming," Bush said.
"And so the United States of America, in the name of peace, will continue to insist he does disarm, and we will keep the pressure on Saddam Hussein," said the President.
"It is clear to me now that he is not disarming. And surely our friends have learned lessons from the past. Surely, we have learned how this man deceives and delays."
