Bihar govt okays amendment to Panchayati Raj Act
Patna, July 16: Bihar government has given its nod to the proposal for amending the Panchayati Raj Act to specify the modalities for bringing a no-confidence motion against the heads of block Panchayat and chairman and vice-chairman of district board.

to the proposal for amending the Panchayati Raj Act to specify
the modalities for bringing a no-confidence motion against the
heads of block Panchayat and chairman and vice-chairman of
district board.
The proposal which was okayed by the state cabinet last
evening would make it mandatory that a no-confidence motion
against the elected representatives could be moved only after
a year of their election, an official spokesman said.
Secondly, once the no-confidence motion against a
particular elected representative was defeated, it could again
be moved only after a year, he said.
The cabinet also approved a proposal to amend the sales
tax rules-1983 which would make it mandatory for the
commercial tax department to grant registration to a business
firm within five days of submission of its application.
The spokesman said the local verification required for registration purpose had to be completed within two months and the security deposit required for registration would be waived.
He said the state government expected a revenue generation of Rs 25 crore following simplification of the sales tax registration rules.
The cabinet also released Rs 136.47 crore for payment of salary and pension arrears to the teaching and non-teaching employees of nine universities, he added.
