Moscow, Aug 20: Russia and India are of the opinion that the United Nations' independent role in Iraq settlement will contribute to implementing constitutional changes and holding elections in the war-ravaged country as well as restore its sovereignty. The Russian foreign ministry press and information department said this in a statement issued after a Moscow meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov and India's ambassador to Russia Krishnan Raghunath.
The Russian and Indian diplomats agreed that the recently passed UN Security Council resolution was called upon to make the world community more involved in the postwar restoration and settlement in Iraq.
The two sides also discussed state matters and prospects of bilateral relations. Bureau Report
