Agartala, June 02: Newly appointed Tripura governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya today said his prime task would be to solve the insurgency problem in the state by bringing the ultras into the mainstream through negotiation. Talking to reporters after he was sworn in at Raj Bhavan here, he said if the insurgents wanted to talk to the Centre through him, he would take the initiative.
"I will not bypass the state government. I would involve the chief minister and the state government in this case," he said.
Sahaya, who was earlier governor of Chhatisgarh, was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court P P Neolekar.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, his council of ministers, leader of the opposition Ratan Lal Nath, besides other dignitaries, were present on the occasion.
Stating that Tripura is geographically isolated from the rest of the country, the governor said negotiations are on with Bangladesh government for obtaining transit facility for restoring the availability of pre-independence communication links between the north-east and the rest of the country through Bangladesh.
