Srinagar, May 18: A militant was gunned down in an encounter with security forces while one person was injured in a powerful IED blast targeting military personnel at Udhampur even as a major tragedy was averted with the detection of an IED planted on the busy Srinagar-Jammu national highway in separate militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir today, official sources said. The militant was killed in an encounter with army in Lolab area of Kupwara district, sources said adding arms and ammunitions were recovered from the unidentified ultra.
Militants triggered a powerful IED targeting security personnel, which exploded injuring a villager in Gool area of Udhampur in Jammu division, police said.
The injured Jamal Din was passing by the area when the IED went off, they said adding he was admitted to hospital.
Troops patrolling Pampore in Pulwama district, 14km from here, averted a major tragedy when they detected an IED planted at the busy highway early morning, official sources said.
A bomb disposal squad of Jammu and Kashmir police was pressed into action which successfully defused the explosive, sources added. Bureau Report
