The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, was re-elected head of the federation for a five-year term, the official news agency WAM reported.
Sheikh Zayed, who is in his 80s, was elected on the 30th anniversary of the UAE federation on Saturday by the supreme council grouping the rulers of Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm Al-Qaiwain.
The President has led the federation ever since it was established in 1971 following Britain's pullout from the Gulf.
