Siliguri, Aug 17: Special security bureau has been deployed along Indo-Bhutan border in Jalpaiguri district of north Bengal, according to the Jalpaiguri Superintendent of Police. Jalpaiguri SP Siddhnath Gupta told newspersons the SSB, which was assigned to guard more than 150 km stretch of the border in the district, had deployed its first company at Totopara on August 15.

A second SSB company reached Jalpaiguri district today and would be deployed along the border at Kalchini, the SP said, adding that one more SSB company was expected to be deployed along the border.
Stating that the SSB deployment would help contain militant activities in Dooars region of Jalpaiguri, Gupta said ULFA, NDFB and KLO used to sneak into the bordering villages of the district through dense forests of Bhutan where they ran arms training camps.

The SSB which guards Indo-Nepal border was asked to keep a watch on the Indo-Bhutan border following a long-standing demand of the West Bengal government to check activities of militants particularly in Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar and Darjeeling districts.
