Itanagar, July 18: Arunachal Pradesh governor Vinod Chandra Pande and Chief Minister Mukut Mithi today made an aerial survey of flood-affected East Siang, Lohit and Lower Dibang Valley districts to take stock of the situation. Besides surveying the inundated areas, the governor and the chief minister stopped over at Pasighat, Tezu and Roing, headquarters of East Siang, Lohit and Lower Dibang Valley districts respectively.
A journalist accompanying Pande and Mithi saw a receding water level in Siang, Lohit and Dibang rivers and its tributaries. But the flood fury had left an imprint of devastation with roads, bridges, water and power channels washed away in various places isolating Pasighat, Roing and Tezu from the rest of the state. Asia`s longest bailey suspension bridge over River Deopani, about two km from Roing, has been damaged snapping road communication between upper reaches of Lower Dibang Valley and Upper Dibang Valley which would take at least three to four months to be normalised, border road engineers said.
Road link was also snapped between East Siang, Upper Siang and West Siang due to washing away of bridge over River Sile near Pasighat. The chief minister announced Rs 20 lakh for providing relief to the villagers in submerged areas, especially East Siang district. Bureau Report
