The 28-year-old actress recently posted split image of herself, showing off front and back views of her glittering gold gown on Instagram with a caption reportedly suggesting she had the face of a white woman but the behind of a woman of colour, News.com.au reports.

The caption is a line from the 1992 Sir Mix-a-Lot song 'Baby Got Back'.

Twitter users were quick to criticize Lively's post and took to the social media to vent out their anger.

Jezebel's J.E. Reich pointed out the caption "touts a diametrical opposition: that Los Angeles can be equated to elegance and/or beauty (read: whiteness), and that Oakland is its foil (read: blackness)."

One Twitter user tweeted, "@blakelively instead of your Oakland booty tell us more about how Woody Allen empowers women and the abuse allegations are not your business.'

Another wrote, "She is using the bodies of women of color as a punchline and a commodity and I don't blame them for being somewhat offended."

The 'Gossip Girl' actress posted a picture of herself on the red carpet promoting Woody Allen's Cafe Society at Cannes.
