Mumbai, Oct 09: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) employees will get Rs 5,500 as non-recoverable ex-gratia before October 20 after the BMC Administration and Employees' Union Coordination Committee signed an agreement here today.
The payment will be made on account and will not be
recorded and will be in budgetary provision of next financial
year, the union president Sharad Rao told.
Stalemate over the bonus demand by BMC employees ended yesterday and BMC employees withdrew their strike after Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray intervened into the matter late last night.
"We agreed for non-recoverable ex-gratia amount of Rs 5,500," Rao said.
However, the demand for bonus still continues, he added.
Thackeray, whose party rules the largest civic body in the country, yesterday held a meeting with leader of opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Narayan Rane, Mayor Mahadeo Deole and others and worked out a formula.
Later, Deole held talks with Rao, who heads the municipal workers co-ordination committee and an agreement was reached.
The union had threatened to resort to a three-day "stop work" agitation to press for their demand of 8.33 per cent bonus plus Rs 5,000. Bureau Report
