California, June 21: A Union Pacific train loaded with lumber has derailed in a suburb east of Los Angeles on Friday crashing into at least three homes.
Runaway freight cars speeding toward Los Angeles derailed in Commerce, California on Friday (June 20) hurling lumber onto track-side homes and injuring one dozen people. One person was being treated for moderate injuries, and eleven others have minor injuries. Firefighters continued to search damaged homes for other victims. The freight cars traveled nearly 30 miles (48 km) before the wreck. Union Pacific reported the freight train had stopped in Montclair to switch some cars. In that process, several of those cars ran loose from where they were being switched. Railroad employees were unable to stop them.
