New Delhi, Apr 29: Accused in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, suspended IPS officer R K Sharma has applied for interim bail for four months to treat himself for back ailments. Filing the application in the court of additional sessions judge Sunil Gaur, the accused said that he had been suffering from back ache for the past few months.

The medical investigation had suggested surgery on his back bone, he said in the application.

The treatment would require at least four months and he might be released on interim bail for the treatment, he said.

The application will be heard by the court on April 30.

The court had also sought the opinion of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on the ailment.
Sharma, Shree Bhagwan, Pradeep, Ved Prakash alias Kalu, Ved Sharma and Satya Prakash have been chargesheeted by the Delhi Police for murder of Indian Express journalist Shivani in her East Delhi apartment on January 23, 1999.
