Nanded, Nov 23: Over 15 persons were injured, including one in police firing, as a fresh bout of arson erupted here this afternoon even as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who visited the town and trouble- torn Parbhani, where curfew was re-imposed this morning. "Around 15 people were reported injured following stone pelting, assault by sticks in various areas which fall under Itwara police station", Nanded District Magistrate, Tanaji Satre told reporters.
Special IGP B N Raut said, "one person was injured when police opened fire in Nanded this afternoon to quell some anti-social elements who had resorted to arson and stone pelting damaging some commercial establishments."
"Earlier, we had received information that three persons had sustained injuries in police firing. However, a closer probe revealed that one person was injured in police firing while the other, both police personnel, had sustained injuries in the mob attack", Raut clarified.
However, according to civil hospital sources, 24 persons had been admitted there for injuries due to stabbing, stone pelting and assault by sticks. The injured include five police personnel, the sources added.
"Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CRPC have been imposed in the trouble-torn areas which fall under Itwara police station, till six am tomorrow," Satre said.
