Mumbai, Aug 02: Scores of people offered milk and traditional prayers to snakes all over Maharashtra on the occasion of `Nag Panchami' today. With the government issuing a ban on capturing snakes and forcibly removing their fangs, many of the devotees chose to offer milk to bronze idols and photos of snakes.

In many parts of the state, NGOs and wild life organisations carried out public awareness campaigns on the reptiles and the characteristics of snakes.
Posters denouncing capturing of snakes and torturing them also adorned some of the walls of the city.
