Wagah (Amritsar), Sept 28: A 22-member delegation of Pakistan-based jurists today came here across the Wagah border to take part in a two-day international legal conference to be inaugurated at the Punjab University, Chandigarh tomorrow, by President, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.
Arif Chaudhary, advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan and vice-chairman of Bar Council of Punjab in Pakistan, who leads the delegation told reporters, "Advocates of both the neighbouring countries should be allowed to carry their legal practice in the courts of each other's countries as this could be instrumental in bringing peace between India and Pakistan".
Arif said, "We are here to discuss our feelings with our counterparts in India and would tell them that Pak masses are keen for better relationship with Indian people."
"People in Pakistan are fed up with the consistent bloodshed and now want to live in a peaceful atmosphere for the better future of their coming generations as they do not want to sow the seed of hatred in the minds of their children," he said. Sheikh Jamshed Hayat, member of Bar Council of Punjab of Pakistan said, "Relations between the masses of the two nations should be better but this was not possible unless heads of India and Pakistan initiate mandatory steps to uplift the visa restrictions to facilitate frequent visits to each other's country."
