Andhra Pradesh government and Hewlett-Packard on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop 'HP I-community' project, aimed at accelerating socio-economic development using information and communication technology. Hewlett Packard would invest about US one million and state government would play a facilitator role. The project envisages building infrastructure in IT, education, healthcare, and providing access to new markets and capacity building.
The MoU, signed at Kuppam, in the presence of the chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Debra L Dunn, vice-president (corporate operations), HP, would seek to provide e-governance services for land records, birth and death registration, connectivity to local educational institutions and hospitals, health and agricultural services.
"This is a unique project that will help build IT capabilities within the community and establish a scalable, replicable and self-sustaining model for economic growth," the Chief Minister said on the occasion.

Debra Dunn said that the state has emerged as a role model for developing countries. "We are enthusiastic and honoured to be working closely with this state to develop I-community project. We hope to replicate it in other parts of the country as well," she said.
