Srinagar, Nov 10: In stepped up attack against political leaders, militants shot dead a ruling Peoples Democratic Party activist on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway near here, official sources said today.

Sixty-year-old Ghulam Rasool Wagoora, a contractor by
profession and a senior PDP leader, was shot dead by
unidentified militants from point blank last night at
Awantipora Chowk while he was returning home after offering
prayers at a mosque, they said.
The militants fled after pumping bullets in his body, the
sources said adding that Wagoora was rushed to a hospital
where he was declared brought dead.
Wagoora is the fifth political leader killed by militants within a week. On November four PDP block President Ghulam Ahmad Ganai was shot dead at Pampore. A day later national conference activist Ghulam Mohammad Reshi was killed in Srinagar.
On November 6 militants shot dead retired chief prosecution officer and PDP activist Zulfikar Ahmad in Anantnag district and block president of Congress Abdul Majid rather in Baramulla district on November seven. Bureau Report
