Beijing, Mar 26: China has expressed willingness to facilitate dialogue between the US and North Korea to achieve denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, a senior official said. "China had in the past and would in the future play an active and constructive role in achieving the denuclearisation of the peninsula, maintaining peace and stability there, and addressing problems through peaceful, political and diplomatic ways", Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Kong Quan said yesterday.
He said China believed joint efforts from various parties would evolve a correct way to deal with the North Korean nuclear issue.
China hoped that North Korea and the United States could start dialogue as soon as possible and solve the issue through political means on the basis of the 1994 framework agreement between two countries.
"In this regard, China had played an active, responsible and constructive role and would continue to do so," he said at a ministry briefing.
He acknowledged that after the North Korean nuclear issue broke out, various sides had different considerations and suggestions to resolve the issue, Kong said.
China's was ready to explore all options which will lead to the denuclearisation of the Korea n peninsula and peace and stability in the peninsula," he said.
China, the traditional ally of North Korea, supports Pyongyang's suggestion for direct talks and has called for UN Security Council discussion the issue. Bureau Report
