Kuala Lumpur, Oct 09: Malaysia will urge India to reduce tariff on crude palm oil (CPO) and refined oil import, minister of primary industries Lim Keng Yaik has said. Yaik, who will visit India in February, told reporters that the issues he would discuss with the Indian government, include reduction in import duty on palm oil, parity in vegetable oil duty structure and reduction in differential duty.

The use of diversified palm oil based products and possibility of Malaysia supplying the knowledge and technology for oleochemical plants would also be discussed, he said. Saying that the Indian government imposes a very high tariff on palm oil, he said India applies a high differential duty on crude oil and refined oil.
"We would also like to create awareness and promote non-conventional options and diversified usage of oil palm such as, production of oleochemicals, biomass, biofuel and the use of oleochemicals as a substitute to petrochemical in various products, he said. Bureau Report
