Jaipur, May 08: One seriously ill person died taking the toll to eight in the hooch tragedy in a village in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district which observed a peaceful bandh today to protest the incident. Police said one villager who fell seriously ill after consuming the liquor allegedly distributed by political parties during Wednesday's Lok Sabha elections, died in a hospital last night.
A bandh, called by congress, was observed in the district with most business establishments and main markets remaining closed.
Official sources said the bandh was peaceful and additional forces were deployed in the district as a precautionary measure.
A probe by Ajmer divisional commissioner Tapendra Kumar has been ordered into the hooch tragedy in which eight people died and 36 fell ill in Kanwalias village of Bhilwara.
Opposition Congress, blaming the ruling BJP for the tragedy, called for Bhilwara bandh.
