Jaipur, Sept 16: Several people were injured when police opened fire to disperse a group of Bajrang Dal workers and other villagers who threw stones and sat on dharna inside a police station in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district today, police said. Trouble started when a group of dal workers, going to Jhalawar from Aklera by bus in connection with a Sankalp sutra programme for Ram Temple construction in Ayodhya, refused to purchase tickets for the journey and the angry bus driver drove them to a nearby police station.

The Dal workers sat on a dharna inside the police station and beat up a cop as a large number of villagers gathered outside. In its effort to control the mob, police first used lathi-charge and teargas shells and later opened fire, official sources said.

More than a dozen injured have been rushed to hospital in Jhalawar.
