Jerusalem, June 02: Outgoing US ambassador to India Robert D Blackwill is tipped to become President George W Bush's special envoy to the Middle East to supervise implementation of the 'road map' for peace between Israel and the Palestinians. After the three-way summit between US, Israel and Palestinians, Washington is likely to name an envoy who would stay in the region permanently and closely supervise the measures to be enacted as part of the agreements between the two.
The envoy would head an American supervisory team, which would arrive in the region immediately after Wednesday's trilateral summit, and would report directly to Bush on the contacts and measures maintained by the two sides as part of the deal.
During his two-year tenure in New Delhi, Blackwill was believed to be an ardent proponent of bilateral security cooperation between India and Israel.
