Karachi, Sept 22: Police on today arrested two more members of an Islamic militant group that is accused of staging deadly bombing attacks against foreign targets in Pakistan's largest city.

Police launched raids in the Nazimabad district, arrested Khurram Faridi and Amjad Ahmed and recovered a large number of detonators, timers and weapons, Manzoor Mughal, a senior investigator, told a news agency. The two were allegedly planning attacks on senior policemen and diplomatic missions, an intelligence official said on condition of anonymity.

Police have now detained 14 activists of Harkat-ul- Mujahideen al Alaami (international movement of holy warriors) and recovered a huge haul of arms and explosives since the crackdown on terror suspects began 5 days ago in port city.

On Wedneday the government announced the arrest of seven people it described as "most wanted terrorists." Three more were picked up Friday and two more yesterday. Officials say the leader of the group of seven, Sharib, is suspected of masterminding a suicide bombing that killed 11 French naval engineers in may in the deadliest anti-foreign attack in the country this year. Three Pakistanis, including the attacker, also died.

Sharib is also wanted over the us consulate blast the following month that killed 12 Pakistanis including the car bomber, and over a plot to assassinate President Pervez Musharraf in April in Karachi.

Police say Harkat-ul-Mujahideen Al Alaami was also involved in attacks on policemen and outlets of McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Bureau Report
