Jorhat (Assam), Sept 22: Kaziranga National Park, famous for one-horned rhinos and several other endangered species, will open for tourists from October 10, the park's divisional forest officer Arabinda Chandra Das said here today.

As the interior parts of the park were still under water and elephants were unavailable, tourists would move only in vehicles inside the park, Das said. The park is opening early this year to allow tourists visiting the state during the puja vacation.

Meanwhile, two female elephants Nayanmoni and Pratima of the park are all set to leave for the elephant kingdom zoo in Japan on September 24, Das said. Two female elephants from Kaziranga had already left for the same zoo in June last, he added.
