Mumbai, June 12: Moderate pre-monsoon showers continued to lash the city and its adjoining areas for the second consecutive day today even as the meteorological office predicted more rains here and in neighbouring Thane district in the next 24 hours.
The met office recorded 14.2 mm rainfall at Colaba observatory in south Mumbai and 13.7 mm rainfall at Santa Cruz since 8.30 am.
Meanwhile, shops selling umbrellas and rain gears were doing brisk business with the prediction that monsoon would hit the metropolis by this weekend.
The municipal corporation and the Railway authorities have geared up their personnel for the rains, sources said.
The control rooms in all the 23 ward offices of BMC have been provided with a team to help people of respective wards in tackling rain-related problems, they said.
To prevent water-logging and ensure smooth running of trains, BMC and the Central Railway have jointly cleared up culverts and removed more than 10,000 bags of muck from nallahs which run parallel to the railway lines, the CR officials said.
