Lucknow, Feb 10: Three days after giving notice for a no-confidence motion against Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kesri Nath Tripathi, the Samajwadi Party today said a similar notice against the Mayawati government could be considered at a later stage.
"Right now, we have given notice for a no-confidence motion against the Speaker......a similar one against the Mayawati government can be considered at a later stage," SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters here after addressing a meeting of the party's legislature group.
Citing precedents, he said the speaker cannot preside over when the house is considering a no-confidence motion against him.
Alleging that the BSP-BJP coalition government was "resorting to terror tactics" to remain in power, Yadav said his party was opposed to invocation of Pota on independent MLA Raja Bhaiya as "it is not justified".
"Raja Bhaiya was part of the previous BJP government.... yet we decided to support him on this issue as the action against him was taken with a view to settling political scores," the SP chief said.
Leader of opposition Azam Khan, who has given the notice for the motion, said Tripathi should not be allowed to take any decision on the various petitions, including the one for disqualification of some BJP rebels, pending before the Speaker till the house considered the motion.
He said SP would give a fresh notice for a no-confidence motion when the house was summoned.
On the coming assembly by-polls in the state, he said SP was yet to receive any communication from congress for any adjustment. Bureau Report
