Jaipur, Sept 23: Seven persons have been arrested for Saturday's violence in Phagi Tehsil, about 40 km from here, over holding of a Dalit rally in protest against untouchability, police said here today. Law and order situation is under control after promulgation of prohibitory orders following police firing on mob in which more than 30 persons were injured, they said.
Two members of national scheduled castes and scheduled tribes commission visited Chakwara village yesterday to inquire into the issue of practice of untouchability prevalent there that triggered the caste tension.

A Dalit Babulal who was penalised by the villagers for bathing in a village pond nine months back told the commission members Narayan Singh Kesari and Vijay Singh Chaudhary that villagers did not allow low caste people to take bath in the pond.
Babulal said he was threatened with a penalty of Rs 51,000 for his action. A case was registered against 17 villagers, he added.
The commission members who interacted with villagers and administrative and police officials said the commission would decide its future course of action after receiving a report from the state government.
