New Delhi, Aug 16: In the run up to the Lok Sabha polls slated for next year, BJP would be launching a two-month mass contact programme from today. Party president M Venkaiah Naidu said that the 'gaon gaon chalo, ghar ghar chalo' programme is part of mission 2004 and the party would be bringing out a handbook on the achievements of the government so that the party could secure a clear majority and reaching the goal of 300 seats in the Lok Sabha. Naidu, however, said that there was no formal proposal on preponement or postponement of general elections to facilitate synchronisation with assembly elections.
"There is no suggestion to prepone or postpone elections. But, we have suggested synchronisation and heavens would not fall if simultaneous elections are held," he told reporters here. He, however, said the issue has not be discussed formally within the party.
Party sources said some of the NDA allies have been sounded on the issue informally.
The BJP is yet to discuss the issue either within its national executive or parliamentary board.
Party sources also hinted that the issue was likely to be taken up within the party and NDA after the monsoon session of Parliament. Bureau Report
