Bangalore, May 05: Finally, it’s over. The Wall of Indian cricket has a new lease of life, broken hearts have reconciled to their fate and the city’s breathing normal again.

Far from the madding crowds and away from the prying eyes of the media, Rahul Dravid began his maiden innings on the personal front, tying the nuptial knot with Nagpur-based doctor Vijeta Pendharkar at the Yelahanka temple on the city’s outskirts on Sunday. The entire area was converted into a high security zone, with only family members of the two families and a few close friends of Dravid being present at the ceremony.
The marriage was solemnised in traditional Maharashtrian style at around 12.30 in the afternoon.
Among those who personally greeted him on the occasion were cricketers Anil Kumble, Venkatesh Prasad and chairman of the selectors Brijesh Patel.
‘‘It’s a special day for us. I thank you (media) very much for your support. You helped us make it very private and special,’’ the Indian vice-captain said in a brief statement in the evening at a five-star hotel here after posing with Vijeta for the lensmen.
‘‘We require your cooperation for a couple of days more as well,’’ he added as an afterthought, having played hide-and-seek with the media this past week.
Dravid’s holding a reception in the same hotel on May 6, which is likely to be attended by members of the Indian cricket squad, including skipper Sourav Ganguly.
Another reception is slated for May 10 at Nagpur for Vijeta’s friends and relatives.
